What to expect when starting therapy

Starting therapy for the first time can feel uncertain. Here is what the process looks like at Guzman & Baker.
1

Schedule your first appointment

Submit your information through our online new patient request form. We will match you with a provider whose specialties align with your needs.
2

Complete intake paperwork

Before your first session, you will receive intake forms to complete electronically in the patient portal. These cover your history, current concerns, insurance, and payment information.
3

Attend your first session

Your first session is an intake appointment. Your therapist will ask questions to understand your background, your goals, and what brings you to therapy.
4

Develop a treatment plan

Together with your therapist, you will set goals and agree on a treatment approach. Most clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions.
5

Continue and adjust

Therapy is a process. Your provider will regularly check in with you about your progress and adjust the plan as needed.
You do not need a referral from a primary care provider to schedule with us. You can contact our office directly to get started.

How to schedule

Submit a request through our online new patient request form. When you reach out, let us know:
  • Whether you are seeking individual, family, or child therapy
  • Your insurance plan
  • Your preferred days and times for appointments
A member of our team will follow up within one to two business days to confirm your submission and send intake paperwork if your new patient request was accepted by the selected provider.
If you are unsure which type of therapy is right for you, we can help. Our staff can help you review your options before your first session.
